The Dog River Reservoir is 900 acres of land located in the Southern part of Douglasville, Georgia. It was established to protect the quality of the whole Douglasville’s drinking water source, and also to provide active and passive recreational activities for the residents.
An approximately two-mile stretch of the Dog River will be protected by low-impact use. The whole land of the Dog River Park is very pristine and houses many large sculpted rocks. The rocks create a scenic whitewater rapid and are famous with the local kayakers. The Dog River flows throughout the property. The naturally picturesque beauty of this land makes an excellent passive recreational area for the family to enjoy and have bonding moments.

Future Plans
The municipality has lots of plans for the Park like more trails with trailheads, parking, and public access to the rives, as well as active recreational areas that can be used for functions or any social activities. Douglas County hopes that this would help the community to be more mindful and concerned with the nature around us because if we can preserve native wildlife and also with plants in our parks, we can also maintain the essential and intimate relationship between people and nature.
Recreational Complex
The Dog River Recreational Complex is open and offers activities such as fishing, pier fishing, a pavilion for rental, picnic tables, gazebo, grills, boat dock, and johnboat rental. The Dog River is the County’s most unique and precious natural resource that is deeply rooted in the rich history of Douglasville. The Citizen Advisory Group formulated a policy that the property is only open to Douglas County’s residents, property and business owners, as well as their visitors. This has been practiced up until this day in order to keep the 1.9 billion gallons of water in the lake which is the community’s drinking water to be clean as possible. Of course, to serve the Reservoir’s dual purpose of water supply and recreational facility.
